INFORMATION ON HOW TO CARE OF YOUR NEW PUPPY

Your puppy is eating Royal Canin Puppy for Small Breeds. If you choose to change it please do it slowly so as not to cause any problems

Water: please use bottled water at first as the change in water may cause upset tummies,and loose stools causing serious problems, gradually change over by mixing your water with the bottled water till puppy is used to the change. Be watchful to ensure that puppy is  drinking water as they can go downhill very fast if they become dehydrated.

Visiting: Please realize this is a very traumatic time for your puppy, she/he has just left the nest;; where he/she has had lots of litter mates, friends, and mom and dad;;;  this is a complete change in your puppies life;; and "may" cause stress which can end up with an illness if not careful; Refrain yourself from the desire to drag your new puppy all over town to "show him/her off" allow puppy to have settling in time;; too much activity is not good for puppy all at once;; treat puppy as you would a new born baby coming home from hospital the first day;;;; quiet, and lots of love and snuggles is most important;;  " Remember you puppy has just spent hours traveling to be with you,, this is stressful enough.

Vet time:  your new puppy should be taken to the vet as soon as possible upon settling in;; your puppy came with vet records and chart, take this pamphlet with you to keep future records;;  so your vet can see the vaccinations and deworming your puppy has had;;( if your new puppy must cross the border a Health Certificate will accompany him/her  and all required paper work this will be with the bill of sale  and the airlines will give it to you upon reporting for pick up) Bill of sales and contract will accompany all puppies and must be  completed and returned to the breeder within 21 days of receiving your puppy, Registration papers will NOT be sent until the breeder has received the signed contract.

Registration Papers:Your registration papers will follow in about six weeks;( of the breeder receives your contract back signed); names are chosen for you starting with Rey-Lyn; but if you have a name you would like to appear on the registration let us know prior to pick up and we will do our utmost to incorporate it but there is no guarantee.
Toys: your puppy has had a series of favorite toys, balls, and stuffed animals;; be careful of small parts that he/she may chew;;
Alpo chews cut a little smaller are very popular.

Sleeping: Your puppy has been sleeping with litter mates in a home made puppy bed with quilts;; crate training is best; your puppy is used to an open crate and did sleep in a crate with the door open when desired.

Training: Your puppy was doing  exceptionally well on paper however as they grow older they have more space to roam and therefore more accidents;; be patient as your new area is totally new to puppy and there will be accidents; if you use kitty litter do not use clumps;; unfortunately your puppy has had very little outside time  so be cautious of the wind and how much time out, in the beginning all new activities should be done in moderation ( careful they are not overexposed to the sun and heat; they can dehydrate quickly).
Hypoglycemia: This is just a caution alert and to make you aware of this occasional problem/ the smaller your puppy the more the risk;this is a condition that toy dogs can have;; it is low blood sugar; if your puppy seems listless rub some corn syrup on his gums without delay if you don't have nutri -cal (a small plastic bag with nutri cal has been sent with you puppy,), if you witness an attack rub some on his/her gums and get water into puppy and call your vet;; this can cause death; this is caused by stress;over excitement, not eating regular ( four or five small meals daily is best for your puppy) and is considered a hereditary problem to the small breeds, ( this is not a genetic ailment only a condition toy dogs are prone to) you will recognize this if it happens as puppy will become listless.

Microchip" As required by Canadian Kennel club regulations your puppy has been microchipped;; this is a tiny chip implanted in the withers of your pup,, ( between the shoulders) this is used for ID and if lost;; papers explaining more about this will accompany your puppy,, in cases of shipping into the U.S your vet may not be able to read the chip unless he has a universal reader.
